Over Spring Break, the varsity lacrosse team traveled to Orlando, Florida, via Nashville and Chattanooga to participate in Disney’s Wide World of Sports Spring Training, a competition featuring lacrosse teams from across the country.
During this span, the Owls played in five official games and one scrimmage, finishing the week 2-3 overall.
MUS first traveled to Nashville to play Ravenwood. The Owls started slowly and never could garner any offensive momentum as they lost to an experienced Raptor squad, 7-2.
MUS then moved down I-24 to Chattanooga the next day to battle rival McCallie. The team played better on this day, but the Blue Tornado was too much for MUS as the Owls fell to 0-2 with the 10-5 setback.
After the McCallie loss, the team was ready to get to Orlando and not only play in the beautiful Florida weather, but also enjoy the amenities of Orlando.
The Owls won their first game of the year in game three as they took an 8-3 victory over St. John’s School from Houston, Texas. Captains Stephen Bowie and Buck Towner led the way, each scoring two goals.
Later that day, MUS tried to win their second consecutive game against a Texas school as they went up against The Kinkaid School from Houston. Despite a good effort, the Owls fell just short, losing 7-6 in overtime to the Falcons.
In the last official game in Orlando, MUS took on The Bishop’s School from La Jolla, California. In a high-scoring contest, the Owls were victorious, taking the 10-9 victory to move their record to 2-3.
The team did play a scrimmage on March 12 against The Hun School from Princeton, New Jersey, as many younger Owls got valuable playing time and experience. Though they suffered a 9-5 loss, the younger players got opportunities.
Senior goalie Jason Daniel played very well throughout the trip as he kept some strong offensive teams in check, giving MUS opportunities in each game.
The Owls will next take the field in their home opener this Wednesday, March 21, against Mary Institute and Saint Louis Country Day School. Opening faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m. on Hull-Dobbs Field.
