The MUS varsity basketball team played two tough region games this past week as they get into the thick of their league schedule.
MUS opened the long holiday weekend against their rivals from Christian Brothers last Friday evening.
The Owls began the game not shooting well as they shot only 26% from the field in the first half and trailed, 26-18, at the break.
In the second half, the Owls' shooting, however disappointing, did improve to get MUS back in the game as they pulled even in the fourth quarter. Yet CBHS answered each Owl run and ultimately won, 48-46.
MUS was led by John Stokes and McCauley Williams, each with 10 points.
This past Tuesday, the Owls again took the court against the ECS Eagles.
MUS physically dominated the smaller Eagles on this night as they doubled ECS in rebounding for the game, 44-22. Ferrakohn Hall tallied 12 boards, while Louis Amagliani and Stokes each added 8.
Offensively, despite the Eagles’ defensive pressure, MUS still shot 49% from the field, including hitting 5-7 from the three-point line.
Elliott Cole led the team with 17 points as the Owls led throughout and won, 54-42, for their first conference victory.
The Owls (14-5, 1-2) next take on the Saints at Briarcrest Christian School this Friday evening. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
