Following Tuesday's tilt against Central Baptist, the MUS varsity basketball team will have concluded their non-conference schedule as they prepare to begin district play this Friday.
The Owls have faced some good competition as they have compiled a 7-8 early-season record, including victories over Montgomery Bell Academy and Millington.
MUS started the 2003-04 season with a tough loss to a fine Covington squad before evening their record with a solid win over Southaven, 42-35. The Owls then lost two more games before beating Catholic in a big victory, 70-33. The victory over the Chargers began a three-game winning streak, including wins over MBA in Nashville and Tipton-Rosemark.
However, after the consecutive victories, the Owls proceeded to drop five of their next seven to drop to 6-8 overall. In that stretch, MUS claimed home wins over Millington and FACS, but they were handled by Houston and Germantown on the road, and they also went 0-2 during the annual trip to the Carbondale Holiday Tournament, held during Christmas break. After having returned from the disappointing trip, the Owls then lost to rival Lausanne, 66-52, after having stayed close during the first three quarters.
Most recently, MUS got back to their winning ways with a win last Friday night against Lighthouse Christian, 65-17.
The Owls hope to even their record following the Central Baptist game as they prepare for the district schedule, which always promises to be tough and full of competitive games.
