We want to thank our volunteer coaches without whom we simply could not field functional Lower School football teams each year. Pictured here are the eighth grade coaches, assembled following their Shelby League championship win versus Houston Middle earlier this semester. These men can coach, many being former Owls themselves, and their positive presence in the lives of the boys will be felt for years.
L-R Trevor Benitone '92, Jack Steffner '08, Ben Stallworth '07, head coach Bobby Wade '84, Mason George '06, Larry Heathcott, and Henry Dickinson '11.
Coach Wade exhorts the troops one last time following an outstanding season. The eighth grade team forms much of the foundation of the varsity program going forward, these guys going from the glitz and glory of the playing field to the grind of the freshman and scout teams as the upper classmen emerge for their time on the stage. It's a protracted process for these students, one requiring a disciplined mindset for both the short-term and the long-term, a teamwork commitment, and strong school spirit as they work daily to write their chapter for submission to the storied annals of the vaunted Red and Blue gridiron tradition.
