From Mrs. Amy Poag, Lower School counselor
Hope everyone had a restful Thanksgiving break. It’s time to look toward our next break in a few weeks, which means one thing…EXAMS! A few key pieces of information:
Download MUS Fall 2016 Exam Schedule is suitable for framing!
First and foremost, this IS NOT the time to panic. Exams are simply review of familiar material. Nothing more. Please help your son to keep this in perspective.
This IS the time to plan and organize. All Lower School students have been given a copy of the above calendar. You may want to print one for yourself and post it somewhere prominent in your home. (Note that the version in the assignment book is incorrect.)
Lower School students will take exams in this order:
Wednesday, December 14: Latin (8)/Origins of Language or Old Testament (7)
Thursday, December 15: History (8)/NO 7TH GRADE EXAM (extra study day at home)
Friday, December 16: English
Monday, December 19: Science
Tuesday, December 20: Math
***Exams start at 8:30 every day and end at 10:45, after which time boys are dismissed.
Tuesday, December 13 is a half-day. The cafeteria will be closed that day and will reopen when classes resume in January.
Mr. Suddarth will proctor ASAP from 12-4 in Room 106 in the Lower School on days when an exam follows the next day (12/13, 12/14, 12/15 and 12/19.)
All teachers will have exam review sessions during class time on Monday, December 12 and Tuesday, December 13.
Some teachers will have review sessions outside of class. Below are the ones that are scheduled to date. We will communicate as more sessions are scheduled.
Tyler: 7:30 a.m. every exam morning in his office
Packard: Accelerated Geometry, 12/19, 10:45-11:45, room 102
Fockler/Tenent: World History, 12/14, 12-1:30, Dunavant Lecture Hall
Exam study sessions begin in Hyde Library tonight, 11/28. These study sessions are from 6-9 p.m. and provide MUS students with a quiet and distraction-free setting to complete homework, study for tests and quizzes, and prepare for semester exams. The sessions are proctored by a faculty member and will continue throughout exams. The fee for attending is $150. Please email Joe Abrahams to register your son.
IMPORTANT: If your family has an unavoidable conflict with the exam schedule, please notify us ASAP so that alternate arrangements can be made. Alternate times are available during the afternoons of exam days and on Thursday, December 15 for 7th graders. Your son must complete an excused absence form for permission to make this arrangement. Please do everything possible to avoid rescheduling exams. It’s hard on students having to rush through studying and double up on exams.
LAST: Consider an electronic weaning program at home. Screen distractions can suck up gobs of valuable time. Help your son by removing whatever stumbling block invades on his priority to focus and review over the next few weeks. Consider taking a photo of the removed gaming system and sending it in to us for publication/posting. It should have the message "Out of commission until 10:45 a.m., December 20, 2016" taped to the physical electronic (phone, gaming device, DS, whatever) to qualify for our temporary art installation: Wall of Opportunity
