Exam week stuff, study opportunity

If you check the calendar to the right of this page, you can see the exam schedule. Please note that the printed exam schedule on the MUS paper calendar is incorrect as we decided to make Exam Week more efficient by batching subjects. The result leaves the seventh-graders disappointed as they now have no school on Friday, December 19. The real winners are those blessed seventh-graders who took Art this semester as their break begins as early as 10:00 a.m. Wednesday when the first exam dismissal bell rings. We suggest that for the sake of their semester math grade they stay beyond that first bell and work diligently up to the 10:45 a.m. final bell. We ask that parents drive this point home before you drive your boys off campus. In other words, don't pick up your sons until the final exam bell so that the lads will be extra cautious that they have produced their best work.

That said, we have the After School Academic Program scheduled to run throughout December 15-19. With daily exam periods finishing at 10:45 a.m., the Dunavant Lecture Hall in the Lower School will continue serving as host to ASAP during exam week from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. as Mr. Suddarth and Mr. Akin cover the sessions. We offer Friday, December 19 at no charge realizing that parents still have to work into the afternoon and exams are completed. We'll show some cool movies or re-enact some Roman battle just for kicks.

The ASAP Exam sessions cover two three-hour periods, 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. The price is $10 for one session, $15 for two. Students will be billed according to their attendance as recorded. Therefore, if you desire that your son remain at school following exams and/or a review session so that he is less tempted to surf the net and/or Wii his time away while you are at work, you have an alternative. Remember that exams account for 25% of the semester grade. Again, here are the suggested exam review schedules as produced by Mrs. Schuhmacher:

The faculty is encouraged to offer exam review sessions following the morning exams. Each teacher will approach the opportunity to offer a review on an individual basis. There is no charge for attending a review session, but the only way to remain on campus after 10:45 a.m. during Exam Week is either to attend a review session or attend ASAP. Review sessions run generally an hour, so we anticipate the carpool line forming around 11:45 a.m. for those planning to leave campus. For those staying, we suggest that the boys pack a hearty sack lunch, some snacks, and a beverage or two.
